Liverpool's Marko Grujic suffered concussion against Chelsea - source

PASADENA, Calif. -- Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic suffered a concussion in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the Rose Bowl, a club source has confirmed to ESPN FC.

The 20-year-old was taken off at half-time in the International Champions Cup match after he collided with Bertrand Traore and took a nasty blow to the head.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters at a news conference following his side's loss that Grujic could not remember "anything" about the incident and was in the hospital.

Grujic was taken to Huntington Memorial hospital and underwent a CT scan, where he was given the all clear. However, it was revealed that he was suffering from concussion and that has ruled him out of Saturday's meeting with AC Milan in Santa Clara, California.

The Serbia international was fine to return to the team hotel on Wednesday night and is under close supervision by Liverpool staff. Grujic will board the team plane on Thursday as they fly back to the team training base in Palo Alto.

Liverpool acquired Grujic from Red Star Belgrade in a £5.1 million move back in January but he remained at this boyhood club on loan till the end of the 2015-16 season.
