Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge out of ICC clash against Chelsea - source

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will not be involved in Wednesday's friendly against Chelsea, a club source has told ESPN FC.

Liverpool have withdrawn the England international from the International Champions Cup meeting (11 p.m. ET, ESPN3) at the Rose Bowl as a precautionary measure.

Sturridge has not joined Liverpool's travelling party to Southern California and is staying behind at team's base in Palo Alto to complete extra training sessions.

Liverpool, however, insist that the 26-year-old is likely to be involved in their second preseason friendly in the United States, when they take on AC Milan in Santa Clara on Saturday.

Also missing Wednesday's meeting with Antonio Conte's side will be new signing Georginio Wijnaldum, Christian Benteke and Divock Origi.

The trio have not travelled with the squad to Pasadena as they try to regain fitness following their late arrival to Liverpool's preseason training.

Additionally, Nathaniel Clyne has been ruled out of the Chelsea game with a tight hamstring. A club source said the decision to withdraw the full-back was a precaution, and he is expected to return within a matter of days.
