Marko Grujic scores in Liverpool debut as Reds beat Fleetwood Town

Marko Grujic was the star of the show as Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners in their second preseason friendly against Fleetwood Town on Wednesday night.

The midfielder, who joined Jurgen Klopp's team in January from Red Star Belgrade before spending the rest of the season there on loan, capped off an impressive start to his Liverpool career by getting on the scoresheet, with 16-year-old Ben Woodburn, Lucas Leiva and Roberto Firmino twice grabbing the other goals at Highbury Stadium.

Grujic was handed his Liverpool debut having missed Friday's short trip to Tranmere Rovers as he was required to leave the country and then re-enter it after being granted a work permit.

The 20-year-old Serbian started in the heart of midfield and was given license to venture towards goal. His desire to get forward led to the visitors earning a penalty early on -- only for Danny Ings to fluff his lines from the spot.

However, Liverpool finally got the ball in the back of the net as Grujic's bright opening to the game was rewarded when a deflected shot went beyond Chris Neal in the Fleetwood goal before hitting the woodwork minutes later.

Fellow new recruit Sadio Mane also looked bright starting on the left-hand side, gliding effortlessly past defenders and often cutting in on his preferred right foot.

Liverpool's first-half XI were entirely dominant and it was a similar story for their side after the break when Woodburn added a second goal in the 52nd minute. The Welsh forward is one of the brightest prospects at Liverpool's academy and applied a simple finish to accompany an assured performance on the back an impressive stint in the Tranmere game.

Brazilians Lucas and Firmino then netted within 60 seconds each other before the latter scored again right at the death to round off a good night's work for Jurgen Klopp's team.
