Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge must be in England Euro 2016 squad - Fowler

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge should be in England's Euro 2016 squad even if he is only half fit, Robbie Fowler has said.

Anfield legend Fowler told the Liverpool Echo that Sturridge -- who scored the opening goal as he returned to the team for the 6-0 hammering of Aston Villa -- could create opportunities out of nothing.

Sturridge was making his first league start since Oct. 4 after a string of injury problems.

When England coach Roy Hodgson appeared on BBC television's Match of the Day programme on Saturday, he did not name Sturridge when asked to discuss his options up front, mentioning Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy as candidates.

But Fowler said: "Jamie Vardy is nailed on and he will probably go. Harry Kane -- yes, nailed on. Wayne Rooney, nailed on.

"I'd take one more. If I'm being honest, Daniel Sturridge has only played a few games this year. He's not fit, but I'd still take him. They would be my four.

"You don't plan for the future at tournaments -- you have to go with players how are doing well, who are confident and scoring goals.

"Daniel Sturridge, if he's half-fit, he has got to go. He is a tremendous player who can get a goal out of nothing, and that's something England might need."
