Philippe Coutinho in line for Liverpool return at Southampton in cup tie

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho is poised to return to the squad for the Capital One Cup quarterfinal against Southampton on Wednesday, manager Jurgen Klopp has said.

The Merseysiders have been without the Brazil international since he suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-1 win at Manchester City earlier this month.

But speaking after his side's 1-0 win over Swansea at Anfield on Sunday, Klopp said: "Philippe had a very intensive session [on Saturday], but we decided two or three days ago that we didn't want to risk him for this game.

"Now I think he's fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I'll have to talk with him tomorrow -- I think he's ready for Southampton."

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and striker Daniel Sturridge made their first appearances under Klopp against the Swans.

James Milner's second-half penalty secured the points, moving Liverpool into sixth place in blustery conditions.

Klopp said: "I was only on the pitch during the warmup, but it [the wind] was really crazy because it changed all the time.

"We are an outdoor sport, no problem, we have to accept all rain, snow, wind, whatever. But it's the biggest enemy of football, wind."
