Philippe Coutinho injury concern for Liverpool as Klopp hopes on fitness

Jurgen Klopp hopes Liverpool reacted quickly enough to a potential hamstring injury for Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian playmaker was forced off midway through Saturday's 4-1 win at Manchester City.

Coutinho, 23, was instrumental at the Etihad Stadium as he scored Liverpool's second goal and created the third for Roberto Firmino to hand Klopp's side a three-goal lead within 32 minutes.

Sergio Aguero hit back for City before Coutinho departed on 68 minutes due to injury, though Martin Skrtel's late volley capped an impressive win for the Reds.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Coutinho will undergo a scan after leaving the Etihad with "some discomfort in his hamstring," and Klopp says the Merseyside club must now wait for more information.

"I hope we got there early enough," Klopp said. "It was a little bit of cramp. He felt something.

"I hope that's all it was because everybody can see that he's very important to us. He's in really good shape in this moment and I hope we could react early enough."

Coutinho has scored four goals in his last three Premier League appearances, including a brace in a 3-1 victory at champions Chelsea on Oct. 31.

Liverpool face nine games in the league and Europa League before the New Year, with Mamadou Sakho (knee), Danny Ings (knee), Jordan Henderson (foot) and Joe Gomez (knee) among those currently unavailable for Klopp.
