Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler would 'love' to part of backroom staff

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler says he would "absolutely" love a position in his old club's backroom staff under a new manager.

Fowler, 40, scored 184 goals for Liverpool but his only coaching experience has been in Thailand.

But he insisted that he'd be ready if Brendan Rodgers' replacement wanted to bring him on board as part of his staff.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested if a new manager comes in and I'd love to be on the backroom staff," Fowler said.

"Liverpool's a massive part of my life. If that was to be the case than I'd absolutely love that."

Liverpool are in negotations with Jurgen Klopp to replace Rodgers, sources have told ESPN FC, and Fowler has a good opinion of the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

"My personal opinion is he's a very good manager," Fowler said. "I don't know him as a man, I've never met him. Looking at him from an outsider I was impressed with his performances over Germany for Dortmund. That's all it is.

"I like what I see, but that's exactly the same as Carlo Ancelotti. I like his manner, I like Jurgen Klopp's manner, I like the way they are with the teams. They've got the teams playing great football, good football we deserve at Liverpool. Both of these managers can supply that."

Fowler also defended Rodgers's record, though he stood by the club's decision to sack him just eight league games into his fourth season at Anfield.

"I don't think he was a failure as such," Fowler said. "I thought he'd done very well, but as I've said before football is a results business now. If you're not getting the results that you want or you're not winning leagues or you're not winning cups, then questions are going to be asked, and sadly for Brendan that's been the case.

"But I actually thought he's been a very good Liverpool manager. I liked him. I like him as a man, I liked him as a manager, I thought his man-management style was very good. But the club has said, 'We want a change,' and that's the club's idea to change the manager and we all stand by that decision."
