Brendan Rodgers not seeking Liverpool assurances from owners

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said he is not seeking any assurances over his future amid continuing speculation that his job is under threat.

Rodgers' side were booed off by their fans on Thursday after an underwhelming 1-1 draw with Swiss club FC Sion in the Europa League at Anfield.

Liverpool ended a run of four Premier League matches without a win by beating Aston Villa 3-2 at Anfield last Saturday, climbing to ninth in the table.

But they have rarely looked convincing this season, and both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp have been linked with Rodgers' job.

The manager, who arrived from Swansea in June 2012, faces a key test when Liverpool visit local rivals Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

But Rodgers said the pressure was not fazing him and he had no plans to seek reassurances from Fenway Sports Group, the club's American owners.

He said: "It's not something I look for. It's not something I'm worried about. I always do the very best for the players and for the situation that I'm in. I'm not looking for any reassurances.

"I love the club. I enjoy being here and, along with the rest of the staff, the challenge of improving and developing.

"It's a long season. It's still very early in the season, and we're making progress as we go along.

"We know we've got some outstanding players to come back into the reckoning. Once we get them back fit and ready, we know we've got a squad to challenge."

Rodgers accepts criticism will come when his players fail to live up to expectations, and he had no issue with the booing from fans at the end of the draw with Sion.

He said: "The supporters watched the game and will be disappointed we didn't take the chances. They want to win as much as we want to win.

"There is frustration there, but we have to take that on the chin. When you lose games at a club like this, the investigation is very deep and the analysis is huge. But that's all part of being at this club."
