Divock Origi must improve his finishing for Liverpool, says Brendan Rodgers

LIVERPOOL -- Brendan Rodgers told Divock Origi that he has to improve his finishing to take the chances he squandered as Liverpool could only manage a "frustrating" 1-1 draw against Sion.

The manager praised his 20-year-old Belgian for setting up Adam Lallana's fourth-minute opener, but Origi was unable to take the opportunities to win the game and open his Liverpool account.

Instead Origi, who only scored 16 goals in 89 games for Lille, has yet to prove prolific and Rodgers believes he has to be more clinical if he is to make a mark at Anfield.

Rodgers said: "Divock has come in and had limited chances. These are the games he is getting that experience in. He knows the next step is about finishing. It was good to see his great quality and skill for the first goal and he had chances after that.

"He knows it is a part of his game he needs to improve. When you get the opportunities at this level you have got to take them."

Rodgers felt his side deserved to take all three points in the Europa League fixture but the draw means Liverpool have only won one of their last eight games.

And he was critical of his side after they allowed Ebenezer Assifuah to level for the Swiss Cup winners.

"I am disappointed with the result," he added. "The story of the game was obvious. We started well, got in front, gave away a poor goal and then created chances and should have maybe won a lot more comfortably but unfortunately ended up drawing and [feeling] a bit frustrated."

Rodgers removed right wing-back Nathaniel Clyne at half-time and striker Danny Ings after an hour but confirmed neither is injured as he looked to rest them ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby, but Kolo Toure was hurt when he was withdrawn.

"We had a plan before the game that Nathaniel would play 45 minutes and Alberto [Moreno] 45," he said. "We were asking Danny Ings to play an hour. We needed to protect one or two as we have a number of injuries. The only forced [change] was Kolo."
