Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson expecting Adam Lallana to shine

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has said he expects big things from fellow England international Adam Lallana next season.

Shortly after moving from Southampton to Anfield last summer, Lallana sustained a knee injury that cut short his preparation time and delayed his debut until mid-September.

He was dogged by injury concerns throughout his first year at his new club -- but Henderson hopes to see a different player in the new campaign.

"Last preseason he got an injury, so he didn't really have a good preseason under his belt and when he came back he was always trying to fight and get back fit," the captain told Liverpool's official website.

"I felt a bit sorry for him last season, but Adam is a top player. He's got great quality and he's got great knowledge of the game.

"I'm sure he will work really hard this preseason and, come the first game of the season, I'm sure he will be flying.

"I've told him that I'm expecting big things from him this season."

Lallana has already shown in flashes what he is capable of, and Henderson believes the 27-year-old can cope with the extra pressure of producing his best form on a regular basis.

"I know he feels as though he can show people a lot more in terms of getting into a rhythm of playing every week," he said.

"There are big things to come from him, I'm sure."
