Nathaniel Clyne set for Liverpool medical - sources

Nathaniel Clyne is set to undergo a medical at Liverpool on Monday as his move from Southampton nears completion, sources have told ESPN FC.

Clyne, 24, is expected to sign a five-year contract after the two clubs agreed a deal last week.

Liverpool had an initial bid of £10 million for Clyne rejected in May, but returned with a higher offer that will see Southampton receive an initial fee of £12.5 million.

There will be further add-on payments due depending on the player's success at Anfield.

Southampton accepted in May that they were set to lose Clyne, who had one more season to run on the four-year contract he signed when he arrived from Crystal Palace in 2012.

The England right-back, who has made four appearances for England, is now set to complete the formalities of his move to Merseyside following his return from holiday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has been looking to strengthen his squad in the right-back position, with Jon Flanagan recovering from knee surgery that could keep him out until the start of 2016.

Glen Johnson, who was unable to make himself a regular in the role last season, has since left Anfield as a free agent.

Clyne is set to become Liverpool's sixth signing of a busy summer, following the arrivals of goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, defender Joe Gomez, midfielder James Milner and forwards Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino.
