Liverpool UCL winners to celebrate 10th anniversary with Istanbul Reunion

Former Liverpool players are preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2005 Champions League triumph with an "Istanbul Reunion" event at the Echo Arena on Monday night.

The club will be hoping their current squad will use the event for inspiration after captain Steven Gerrard signed off on his Liverpool career with Sunday's 6-1 defeat at Stoke, while Raheem Sterling also looks likely to leave Merseyside this summer.

Milan led the 2004-05 final 3-0 at half-time, but Rafael Benitez's men scored their three goals in a six-minute burst early in the second half to flip the game on its head before Jerzy Dudek's penalty shootout heroics handed the club their fifth European Cup trophy.

Reds players from the final will attend the event and relive the events of the match with over 10,000 fans, with former defender Jamie Carragher saying: "If the fans who were in Istanbul on the night come and create that same atmosphere, the roof will come off the Arena."

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has admitted he has watched his shootout penalty "at least 200 times" as he prepares to celebrate the anniversary.

While Dudek took many of the plaudits for his saves in the shootout, Cisse was one of three Liverpool players who held their nerve to score from the spot.

"My penalty, I have seen perhaps at least two hundred times," said the 33-year-old, who played his final Ligue 1 game last weekend in Bastia's 3-0 defeat at Marseille. "It's one of the most intense moments of my career along with my first Coupe de France final with Auxerre against Paris [Saint-Germain].

"But Liverpool vs. AC Milan was extraordinary. I wish many players the chance to experience that."

Monday's reunion will give Cisse -- who moved to Anfield from Auxerre in 2004 -- an opportunity to pay his own tribute to 34-year-old Anfield legend Gerrard, who is departing for LA Galaxy this summer.

"I'm going to meet Steven again. I haven't had the time to congratulate him for all that he has done," he added. "It's going to be exceptional."
