Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge visits United States to decide on operation

Daniel Sturridge has travelled to the United States to assess whether he needs to have an operation on his hip, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said.

The BBC and Liverpool Echo had earlier reported that the England international is visiting U.S. surgeon Dr Peter Asnis, who works with the Boston Red Sox, who are also owned by Fenway Sports Group.

The 25-year-old striker, who has made just seven Premier League starts this season after a string of fitness problems, suffered the hip injury against Manchester United on March 22.

Rodgers said at a news conference on Friday: "I think we've found some underlying issues that relate to Daniel's problems this season.

"The staff here, the medical team, have been liaising with some of the medics in America and we're just doing everything we can to give Daniel every opportunity to be fit and available consistently."

Rodgers had said earlier this week that the England international could miss the rest of the season

"It's been difficult," he said. "Daniel is a good lad who wants to play and work and help the team but it's been one of those seasons for him.

"He's been very unfortunate. We'll have to monitor him day by day and see where he's at.

"When he's been fit, he's been brilliant -- but it's just a case of getting him back on a consistent basis. Whether that's this season, or in preseason, has to be seen."
