Daniel Sturridge to have tailored Liverpool fitness regime - sources

Liverpool will give striker Daniel Sturridge a tailored fitness programme this summer in the hope of resolving his injury problems.

Sturridge has suffered four significant injury setbacks in the last seven months, and the club are keen to ensure those problems do not persist, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 25-year-old has made just seven Premier League starts this season, and is currently out of action with a torn hip muscle.

Sturridge has made one attempt to come back from his latest injury, sustained against Manchester United on March 22, but has missed his side's last two matches and is expected to be unavailable for Saturday's Premier League trip to West Brom.

The England international did not play for Liverpool at all between the end of August and late January after suffering two separate thigh injuries and a calf problem.

Manager Brendan Rodgers had expected Sturridge to be Liverpool's main goal threat this season following the July sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

But injuries have restricted the forward to just five goals for his club, a significant drop on the 24 he scored last season.

If Sturridge's fitness record does not improve, it will raise questions as to whether Rodgers can continue to rely on him.

The manager, who is likely to sell Mario Balotelli at the end of the season, is looking to bring in Danny Ings from Burnley, while he will also have Belgium international Divock Origi available.

Origi, who joined Liverpool from Lille last summer, is about to complete a season's loan back at the French Ligue 1 club.
