Liverpool's Steven Gerrard facing 3 weeks out with hamstring injury

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is facing around three weeks out after picking up a hamstring injury.

Gerrard was substituted after 68 minutes of Tuesday's 3-2 Premier League win over Tottenham after complaining of the problem.

He is set to miss Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round trip to Crystal Palace, as well as both legs of Liverpool's Europa League round-of-32 tie against Besiktas and key Premier League meetings with Southampton and Manchester City.

Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe told a news conference: "Unfortunately, Steven had to come off during the Tottenham game. He's had the scan this morning, and we're just waiting for the results to come back."

Manager Brendan Rodgers has already suffered one injury setback in midfield this week, with Lucas Leiva ruled out for between four and six weeks after suffering a thigh injury during last Saturday's 0-0 draw at Everton.

Pascoe has indicated that Emre Can, who has been playing as part of a three-man central defence over the last couple of months, is likely to move into midfield to cover for the absences of Gerrard and Lucas.

The assistant manager said: "When we were monitoring him with a view to signing him, we saw he could play at centre-back.

"But midfield is his position. He wants to play there, but he will play anywhere for Liverpool.

"He's worked hard and waited for his chance, and he's grabbed it with both hands."
