Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers rues referee's decision against Bolton

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers felt Bolton defender Matt Mills should have seen red during the goalless draw in the FA Cup at Anfield.

The Championship club earned a fourth-round replay after withstanding heavy pressure in the final stages to frustrate the hosts.

However, Rodgers felt Mills should have been sent off at the beginning of the second half for bringing down Lazar Markovic on the edge of the area.

Markovic tumbled under a challenge from Mills five minutes after the restart when there was only the goalkeeper to beat, but the referee waved play on.

"That was a poor decision,'' Rodgers said. "Matt Mills should have been sent off. You can see it clearly. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes it doesn't."

Rodgers, however, declared himself pleased with the draw and was glad to still be in the FA Cup.

"It was always going to be tough,'' he said. "Neil [Lennon] has done a great job [at Bolton] and in 16 games they've lost three. We knew it would be physically demanding and I thought the players were outstanding positionally and getting the ball into the final third. We give them credit, their goalkeeper was outstanding.

"You've seen what it's like [with results elsewhere] and if you can't win, it's important that you don't lose."
