Martin Skrtel shows staples required after head injury vs. Arsenal

Martin Skrtel has revealed the extent of the head injury he suffered during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with ArsenalĀ on Sunday.

Skrtel was caught by the boot of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the second half at Anfield, and, after extensive treatment, played on with his head bandaged.

The defender went on to score deep in second-half injury time -- nine minutes were played as a result of the cut sustained by the Slovakian -- and clinch a point for the Reds, after they had dominated much of the game.

Skrtel, 30, posted a photo on his official Instagram account after the game that showed the staples needed to treat the injury.

Dissapoiting with the result but happy to scored that late goal and helped the team to get at least the point!

"It's alright now," Skrtel told the club's official website. "It was quite sore straight after the accident, but that's part of football. I'm just glad I could carry on and be part of the game.

"I'm happy about the goal because it helped the team to get a point. But we're disappointed because after the performance we showed - we were dominating -- we deserved more than we got."

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers added: "He is a strong character, a real warrior, and thankfully he stayed on and scored a great header."
