Brendan Rodgers demands more aggression from Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool must become more aggressive to salvage a season in danger of falling apart after four successive defeats.

Liverpool slipped to 12th in the Premier League after losing 3-1 at Crystal Palace on Sunday, leading the manager to admit that he was not safe from the sack.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Rodgers' job is safe as Fenway Sports Group, the club's American owners, have no plans to review his position. But Rodgers, who signed a new four-year contract in the summer after guiding the club to second place in the Premier League last season, is aware that results have to improve.

The Reds are in danger of Champions League elimination at the group stage as they travel to Bulgaria to face Ludogorets on Wednesday. And the manager is demanding better defending from a team who have kept only two clean sheets in 18 competitive matches this season.

He told Liverpool's website: "We need to be more tenacious, more aggressive and have a greater capacity to defend better as a team. When there are moments to defend, you have to defend better -- and that's something that we'll look to do."

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has faced criticism or his performances this season, but he says he can help turn Liverpool's season around.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I look at the games and I'm my biggest critic. Together with the goalkeeping coach [John Achterberg] we look at the games and we analyse everything the day after a game together.

"We look at every little detail. We look at some things that people wouldn't even think a goalkeeper was featuring in at that moment, like a cross that goes out of play or a throw that is 50 yards from goal. We'll look at my positioning.

"There's no point looking or worrying about what anyone else is saying or analysing because we're doing everything we can to make sure we improve.

"We all have to make sure we do our best and the performances will come."
