Daniel Sturridge 'devastated' by latest injury setback, says Jordan Henderson

LIVERPOOL -- Daniel Sturridge is "devastated" by his latest injury setback and at a "low point," his Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson has revealed to ESPN FC.

The England striker, who has not played since August, was due to make his comeback at Crystal Palace on Sunday until he hurt a thigh in training, ruling him out until 2015.

Sturridge has been sidelined by first a thigh injury and then a calf problem, and vice-captain Henderson admits it is a major blow to Liverpool to lose him again.

The former Chelsea player struck 21 Premier League goals last season but has been limited to one in the current campaign and has missed Liverpool's last 14 games.

And Henderson said: "It is a big blow, not only for the team but for him as well.

"He is devastated, at a really low point really because he was looking forward to getting back playing. He felt good so it is disappointing for us as a team and him personally.

"We have to make sure as teammates we are strong for him because he is doing everything he can in the gym and on the training field to get back as quick as he can. Hopefully he has a quick recovery, a speedy recovery and he comes back firing on all cylinders."

Liverpool are only 11th in the Premier League and Henderson admits they are disappointed by their campaign so far.

He added: "It's been up and down. Obviously we are disappointed with some of the results we have had. We've had good moments in the season but not on a consistent level and to the standards we have set."

Liverpool were runners-up in the Premier League last season and Henderson is struggling to understand why they are unable to replicate their form but believes their greater workload could account for their difficulties.

"I am not sure," he said. "We are doing the same things, we are working really hard in training, [but] the games come thick and fast when you are playing Champions League and the cup games as well.

"You have got to try and deal with that as best you can. It was obviously going to be a shock for us but hopefully as the season goes on then we will be a little bit more used to it."
