Liverpool waiting on fitness of Jordan Henderson ahead of Palace trip

Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson is to be assessed by the club's medical staff after picking up a hamstring injury while on England duty.

The midfielder sat out his country's 3-1 friendly win over Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday because of the problem.

England manager Roy Hodgson told reporters after the match that Henderson had not been considered for selection after suffering the injury, although he insisted it was "very minor."

The former Sunderland player had completed the full 90 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Slovenia at Wembley, a match in which he scored an own goal.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will wait for the reports of his medical team before deciding whether Henderson can play a part in Sunday's Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old, a 16 million pound signing from Sunderland in June 2011, has become a key figure in Liverpool's midfield following a stuttering start to his Anfield career.

Rodgers offered him the chance to leave for Fulham in the summer of 2012, but Henderson chose to stay and fight for his place. He helped the Reds finish second in the Premier League last season, and was named vice-captain in September following Daniel Agger's departure for Danish club Brondby.

Henderson's injury is a concern for Rodgers, who is waiting to discover how much longer Daniel Sturridge will be out for after suffering a new thigh injury while training with the club on Tuesday.

Sturridge, who has not played for the Reds since August, suffered a first thigh injury in September, then pulled up with a calf problem on October.
