Liverpool's Lambert-Balotelli strike duo 'just need one goal' for kickstart

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert believes both he and Mario Balotelli can emerge as a consistent source of goals for the club this season once they get up and running in the Premier League scoring charts.

Summer purchases Lambert and Balotelli are yet to score in the Premier League since their arrival at Liverpool, with the form of both under scrutiny in the absence of the injured Daniel Sturridge.

Yet Lambert is convinced he will find his feet following his move from Southampton, as he suggested a goal of any variety could transform his fortunes at Anfield.

"Mario's like myself, we just need to get a goal," said Lambert, in quotes appearing in the Daily Mirror.

"He's been unlucky with a couple of chances. Obviously you want to hit the ground running and you want to score. The longer it goes, the harder it is.

"It depends how you are mentally. If you are ok and you stay calm -- and sometimes that is hard to do -- I'm confident it will come.

"If it goes in off your backside it doesn't matter once it goes in. That's what a striker needs -- just one to go in and they'll start coming, then the confidence flows."

Lambert went on to offer up a positive outlook for Liverpool's hopes this season, despite their stuttering start in both the Premier League and Champions League.

"Things are building, it is getting better and we believe sooner rather than later we are going to be firing on all cylinders," he added. "The fluency between every department is not the way we want it because common sense means it won't be like that straightaway with new players.

"At the minute it's not quite there but we are not losing games, and we are not in the worst position. When we are firing on all cylinders we are in a position to start getting into serious places."
