Daniel Sturridge back in full training gives Liverpool fitness boost

Daniel Sturridge returned to full training at Liverpool's Melwood complex on Thursday as he edges closer to a comeback from his thigh injury.

Sturridge, 25, picked up the injury on Sept. 5 while on international duty for England, and has not featured for club or country since.

The striker signed a new "long-term" deal with the club last weekend, and his return will come as a big boost for Brendan Rodgers, who has seen his side struggle without Sturridge.

Liverpool sit ninth in the Premier League table having picked up four points from 12 since Sturridge's absence, and also face a challenge qualifying from their Champions League group with a double-header against holders Real Madrid following an away defeat to Basel.

The nature of Sturridge's injury caused Rodgers to criticise Roy Hodgson's coaching methods, suggesting the striker should not have been pushed so hard in training on what should have been a recovery day for the player.

Sturridge was subsequently left out of England's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with San Marino and Estonia, and Rodgers declared himself satisfied that Hodgson would not repeat the same training methods.

Despite Sturridge's improvement, Dejan Lovren has withdrawn from Croatia's squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with an abdominal injury to leave Rodgers potentially short of centre-back options.
