Mexico's World Cup hopes boosted as Nestor Araujo closes in on Liga MX return

Herc Gomez and Sebastian Salazar pinpoint Mexico's areas of concern and give their suggested lineups following recent friendlies versus Iceland and Croatia.

TORREON, Mexico -- Santos Laguna defender Nestor Araujo is on the comeback trail from surgery on his left knee and could be back in Liga MX action should Los Guerreros make the semifinals of the 2018 Clausura.

Center-back Araujo broke down in the first half of Mexico's 1-0 loss to Croatia in Dallas on March 27 with what turned out to be damage to his meniscus and medial collateral ligament and there were fears that the 26-year-old could miss the World Cup, but the Guadalajara native could be back...

Liga MX Power Rankings: Toluca stays top, Monterrey jumps into second

The Dos Santos brothers have their say about whether or not LA Galaxy are a good enough team to win Liga MX if they were in the league.
Alejandro Moreno and Herculez Gomez break down everything that went wrong for Toronto against Chivas in the 1st leg of the CCL final.

MEXICO CITY -- It's official. Toluca now has Liga MX's longest winning streak in the short season era.

The league leaders have been especially dominant of late, with their last three wins coming with clean sheets in defense. With just one week to go in the season, Hernan Cristante's team has gone from fringe candidate, to dark horse, to clear favorite in the Clausura 2018. The question now is whether Toluca can carry that momentum into the playoffs.

Here are the Power Rankings for Week 16:

Lobos BUAP relegated from Liga MX, five teams advance to Liguilla

Alejandro Moreno and Herculez Gomez break down everything that went wrong for Toronto against Chivas in the 1st leg of the CCL final.

It's been a hectic weekend in Liga MX, with one team relegated, the playoff race on a knife's edge, a Mexican legend making his home farewell and the oldest stadium in the league hosting its final game.

Here are five thoughts from the weekend:

1. Lobos BUAP relegated

Lobos BUAP lasted just two short seasons in Liga MX. The 4-0 loss to Monterrey on Saturday condemned the Puebla-based university team to relegation less than a year after it won promotion. Veracruz had looked doomed to the drop a couple...

Chivas players protest club directors before CCL second leg vs. Toronto FC

Alejandro Moreno and Herculez Gomez break down everything that went wrong for Toronto against Chivas in the 1st leg of the CCL final.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Chivas players have once again complained about the club's directors, just four days ahead of the CONCACAF Champions League final, second leg, against Toronto in Estadio Chivas.

Twenty-one members of the first team squad took a photo together and sent it out on social networks on Saturday using the hashtag #DirectivaCumplanSuParte ("Directors fulfill your part"). The statement comes just three weeks after widespread reports that players were unhappywith the lack of bonus...

How to fix, save and restore the prestige of the Copa MX

Necaxa won the latest Copa MX but nobody really noticed. It's an issue that must be addressed.

Where does the Copa MX tournament go from here? While competitions like the CONCACAF Champions League and the Liga MX have dominated the headlines in recent weeks, little has been said about Mexico's domestic cup competition. In fact, for many who are currently reading this right now, it might come as a surprise that the 2018 Clausura edition of the Copa MX is already over.

Without much fanfare or attention, Necaxa defeated Toluca 1-0 in last Wednesday's cup final. Following countless arguments,...
