Ex-Southampton boss Claude Puel lined up for Leicester job - sources

Former Southampton boss Claude Puel has emerged as the front-runner for the vacant manager's job at Leicester City, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

Puel is keen to get back into management and has applied for the vacancy at Leicester.

Sources have told ESPN FC that he has already been interviewed twice, impressing on both occasions with his vision for the club.

Talks are ongoing but Leicester are ready to appoint Puel as Craig Shakespeare's replacement ahead of this weekend's home game against Everton.

Leicester have been searching for a new manager since last week after sacking Shakespeare following a poor start to the season.

Shakespeare's assistant Michael Appleton was placed in caretaker charge, and he guided Leicester to a much-needed 2-1 win over Swansea City last weekend.

However, Leicester want to bring in a more experienced manager to get their season back on track.

Puel, who has been out of work since leaving Southampton in the summer, achieved an eighth-place finish and reached the League Cup final, during his one season in English football.
