Craig Shakespeare to stay as Leicester manager for rest of season - sources

Craig Shakespeare will manage Leicester City until the end of the season, with sources telling ESPN FC that the club's Thai owners are preparing to confirm his appointment before next Tuesday's Champions League clash against Sevilla.

Shakespeare was appointed interim-manager at the King Power Stadium following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri last month and has since guided the reigning Premier League champions to successive league victories against Liverpool and Hull City and eased the club's relegation concerns.

Having stepped up from his role as Ranieri's assistant in the wake of the former Chelsea boss' departure, Shakespeare has impressed Leicester's owners not only with the results on the pitch, but the change of mood and morale within the dressing room and around the club.

Leicester are yet to confirm Shakespeare's appointment until the end of the season, but an announcement is anticipated when the club return from a warm-weather training break in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

Shakespeare, 53, has spent the past decade as assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion, Hull and Leicester and is yet to manage at senior level.

But the Birmingham-born coach is widely respected within the game and has already received the public backing of the Leicester players, with England midfielder Danny Drinkwater the latest to offer his support.

"We will support any manager who comes in, but you know every player probably knows Shakes more than anyone else," Drinkwater said. "If he does get it then it would be a good fit.

"We have known him a few years and a few of us have known him a long time, if he does we will support him all the way."

Leicester do not play until Europa League holders Sevilla visit the King Power next Tuesday for the second leg of their round-of-16 Champions League tie.

Jamie Vardy's second-half goal in Spain saw Leicester emerge with a 2-1 defeat and hopes still alive of progression to the quarterfinals.
