Leicester's Claudio Ranieri does not criticise referee for penalty decisions

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri declined to openly question referee Mark Clattenburg after his side were denied two penalties in Saturday's goalless draw with Arsenal.

The reigning champions are still searching for their first win of the season after having two penalty claims rejected as Danny Drinkwater and Ahmed Musa went down in the area at the end of each half.

Ranieri spoke briefly to Clattenburg on the pitch after the game but was diplomatic in his postmatch news conference.

"I don't know [whether they were penalties]. I am not a manager who says 'Oh, there was a penalty.' For me it's OK," Ranieri said.

"The referee made a very good performance and a penalty happens when the referee whistles. He didn't whistle and there wasn't [a penalty].

Jamie Vardy failed to score as he faced Arsenal for the first time since turning down a move to the Emirates in June, and Leicester have just one point after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Hull on the opening day.

But Ranieri remained optimistic, saying "It was a good performance. The result is good and we deserved a little more but it's OK.

"They kept more possession and were very dangerous but without a clear chance. I am happy for the spirit and union of the team.

"I watched our spirit in a very good performance against a good team."
