Vinnie Jones approached to play Nigel Pearson in Jamie Vardy movie

Vinnie Jones has confirmed that he has been offered the role of former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson in the film about Jamie Vardy.

Leicester's Premier League title success has caught the eye of film producers, with former non-league striker Vardy set to be the star.

But Pearson -- who has twice managed the club, including for the four seasons prior to the Premier League title-winning campaign under Claudio Ranieri -- would also be a big character in the production, and former-footballer-turned-actor Jones says he is the first choice for the role.

"I've been approached and I've said that I'm interested, but there's still a long way to go before that goes into production or anything comes from it," the former Wales captain told Calibre Quarterly. "I would like to do it though."

Leicester signed Vardy from non-league club Fleetwood Town in 2012 and Jones thinks there's a lot of untapped potential in the lower reaches of English football.

"Non-league football has been proven to be a place where great players can be found," the former Wimbledon midfielder said. "Just look at Ian Wright, John Barnes, Stuart Pearce -- all of them came from non-league football and look at the quality they brought to the game.

"Non-league football is a tough place to learn the game, but it sets you on the right track and gives you that passion, heart and desire to go on and succeed.

"I will tell you this though: it is no fluke that that an English manager like Nigel Pearson signed an English footballer from the non-league, as I can guarantee you that wouldn't happen with a foreign manager.

"Is a foreign manager going to be driving to see Wealdstone vs Stevenage on a cold, wet, Saturday afternoon scouting for raw talent? I don't think so."
