Leicester were full of confidence ahead of Manchester City win - Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel says he never doubted that Leicester City were capable of beating Manchester City after their 3-1 win at the Etihad on Saturday.

The Foxes moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League and six clear of title rivals City after their brilliant victory.

And the Leicester keeper says he and his team-mates fear no one ahead of another daunting away fixture this Sunday at Arsenal.

"Of course we believed we could win, otherwise we would not step on the pitch," the 29-year-old told reporters after the win over City.

"Of course we are good enough to be there, we are confident in every game we play and that's been the same all season. We take one game at a time and that's not going to change. We don't need to show anything or prove anything.

"It's about collecting points at the moment and seeing where that takes us. We will enjoy this victory and then we start looking forward to Arsenal. Momentum is always important in football but we are playing well."

However, the Denmark international says he is not thinking about winning the title yet despite their sizeable advantage at the top.

"We are not getting ahead of ourselves, we know there's a long way to go and we will keep our feet on the ground," he added. "The title is a possibility in the long run but we are not thinking about that at all. We are not thinking further than the next game."

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri got his game-plan spot on against City while the speed and threat of dangermen Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy caused constant problems to the home defence.

Mahrez capped his performance with a brilliant individual strike and Schmeichel believes he will be in the running to be named Player of the Year.

"Of course he will be up there, but everyone's playing their part," said the former Manchester City keeper. "He's a top-class player and top-class players are capable of special things and he's definitely that.

"He tries stuff in training all the time and it doesn't always come off but (against City) he scored a special goal and it was fully deserved."
