Leicester not considering Danny Simpson for first-team duties

Leicester have announced that Danny Simpson will not play for the club while they examine legal proceedings against him.

Simpson was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend on Monday after being caught with his hands around the throat of Stephanie Ward, the mother of his child, in December.

The defender, who will be sentenced next month and could face jail, pleaded not guilty and plans to appeal against his conviction.

Leicester released a statement on Friday saying that Simpson "will not be considered for first team duties" while they look into the case.

Simpson has made 18 appearances for Leicester this season, the last coming in March's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
