Leicester manager Nigel Pearson charged by FA over row with fan

The FA has charged Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson after his confrontation with a home fan following the 3-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

Pearson -- whose side have not won in 10 league matches -- had a row with a disgruntled fan after the setback left the Foxes stuck at the bottom of the table.

He told BT Sport: "I had a spat with a fan towards the end. I don't know what they are looking at at times. If they cannot see the players are having a proper go, maybe they need to stay at home.

"I don't like the commitment of my players being questioned. If they honestly think they are not committed, they are very wrong. Maybe that is why I stay in the stand."

The 51-year-old manager later said he would not apologise, adding: "Let's put it like this: it's best if we don't speak about what happened on either side. I'm not going to repeat what happened here.

"If people were offended by what happened then in some ways that is regrettable, but there's no need for me to apologise to someone of that ilk."

On Thursday, a statement on the FA website confirmed that Pearson had been charged, and added: "It is alleged that during the fixture Mr Pearson used abusive and/or insulting words towards a spectator.

"He has until 6pm on 16 December 2014 to respond to the charge."

Using foul or abusive language towards a spectator is a breach of FA Rule E3 and, according to the FA's guidelines, Pearson faces a two-game touchline ban and a fine of up to £12,000 if the "charge is denied and subsequently found proved".
