Arsene Wenger advises Arsenal scout to take Shamrock Rovers chance

Arsenal scout Stephen Bradley says he was given Arsene Wenger's blessing to take over as caretaker manager of Irish club Shamrock Rovers.

Bradley, 31, a former Arsenal academy player, is now the club's main scout for Ireland and Northern Ireland.

And so when he was asked to take temporary charge of Rovers after Pat Fenlon was sacked he felt he needed to ask the Arsenal manager first.

"'I spoke to the boss and he's given me permission to do it until the end of the season," Bradley told the Irish...

Irish side deny move for Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini can cross Cobh Ramblers off his list of potential employers for next season.

League of Ireland side Cobh Ramblers have posted a cheeky denial that Manuel Pellegrini will be taking over as manager at the club in the summer.

The Manchester City manager, who is set to leave the Etihad in the summer, was spotted in the County Cork town on Sunday on a short break during international week.

The 62-year-old is looking for a new club for next season with Pep Guardiola taking over at City next season. However, Cobh insist they will not be taking on the Chilean.

Irish kids from Crumlin United FC combine to score fantastic team goal

It's not often we dip into the Republic of Ireland youth football scene here at Toe Poke, but if this goal is any measure of the quality on offer then we might start paying a bit more attention.

As posted to their official Facebook page, Dublin-based Crumlin United FC have been quick to bestow an effort scored by one of their players last weekend as "Goal of the Season" and it's not hard to see why!

The move was started and finished (in spectacular fashion) by 7-year-old Sean McDonnell but there's...

Damien Duff announces his retirement from football

Damien Duff is retiring at age 36.

Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff announced his retirement on Monday.

Duff, 36, just completed a League of Ireland season with Shamrock Rovers.

The former Celtic, Newcastle and Fulham winger called himself a "very lucky man."

"After much deliberation, I have today decided to bring my professional football career to an end," he wrote.

"My heart wants me to continue playing but my body has finally won the battle and told me to stop.

"I've lived every young boy's dream and I know I am a...

Italian Football Manager fan makes epic trip to meet Derry City hero

It's no secret that Football Manager does strange things to the otherwise sound-minded people who play it, with fans losing countless days (and nights) in an insatiable lust for simulated footballing glory.

Alessandro Colombini, a 19-year-old lad from Livorno, Italy, is just the latest in a long line of victims to go off the deep end when it comes to Football Manager obsession. Many came before him and doubtless many will come after too.

Having fallen in love with the Northern Irish town of Derry,...
