Clermont Foot appoint Corinne Diacre

Clermont Foot have appointed Corinne Diacre as their new manager following Helena Costa's resignation.

Costa, 36, resigned hours before her first training session was due to take place claiming a series of major sporting decisions -- including the signing of players and arrangement of friendlies -- were made without her input.

However, Clermont president Claude Michy retorted by saying: "She's a woman so it could be down to any number of things ..."

Portuguese-born Costa became the first female coach of a French men's professional team upon her appointment by the Ligue 2 side in May.

Now, Diacre, who has previously coached Soyaux and assisted the coaching of the France international side, has taken up the reins.

A statement on Clermot's official website read: "Corinne Diacre has accepted the position of coach of Clermont Foot 63 for the next two seasons and will take up the post early next week."

Diacre made 121 appearances for France between 1993 and 2005.
