Coach Simone Inzaghi 'proud' to sign new three-year Lazio contract

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi has signed a new three-year contract after guiding the club into next season's Europa League.

Inzaghi, the younger brother of former AC Milan coach Filippo, will be in charge until 2020 after impressing in his first full season and said he was "proud" to sign the new deal.

"Lazio announce that the work agreement with head coach Simone Inzaghi has been extended, and he will guide the team for the next three seasons," a statement on the club's official website said.

Inzaghi was not the club's first choice to take charge a year ago, despite having steadied things when he stepped in following the dismissal of Stefano Pioli in April 2016.

Marcelo Bielsa was initially appointed, with Inzaghi set to return to his previous role of youth team coach, but Bielsa then declined to take the job and Inzaghi was given a one-year contract.

He steered Lazio to fifth place in Serie A and the final of the Coppa Italia, in which they were beaten by Juventus.
