Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri sidelined after back injury

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri will be sidelined for three weeks in order to recover from a herniated disc.

A recurring back problem has limited former Italy international Mauri to just four Serie A starts this season.

A Lazio statement read: "We have decided for Mauri to undergo a non-surgical procedure based on radio frequencies to deal with a herniated disc.

"This will be carried out over the new few days. After that Mauri will have to rest for a week before he can begin the recovery process.

"Mauri should be back on the pitch in 20 days' time."

Mauri, 35, will miss three league games, including a home match against Juventus on Dec. 4.

The former Lazio captain will also sit out next week's Europa League clash against Dnipro but should recover in time to face St Etienne in France on Dec. 10 in his team's final Group G game.

Lazio, coached by Stefano Pioli, are ninth in Italy's top flight and are on the verge of qualifying for the Europa League round of 32.

The Biancoceleste have lost their last three league games and host Palermo on Sunday.
