Lazio striker Miroslav Klose hints at retirement in 2016

Lazio striker Miroslav Klose has dropped another hint that he will end his career at the end of the season.

Former Germany international Klose, 37, has one year remaining on his contract with the Italian club and has suggested it will be last.

The striker, who is the all-time World Cup top scorer with 16 goals, returned to Germany to play in Lazio's 3-0 defeat at Mainz on Wednesday in what may have been his final appearance in the country.

Speaking to reporters about the prospect he will retire at the end of the season, Klose said: "I have only one more year left on my contract."

Klose's deal was automatically renewed for another year after he featured in over 20 Serie A games last season, although he did not confirm that he would stay on in Rome until June.

"I hope that I can replicate my last year -- I was injury-free," he said, after a season in which he played in 34 of Lazio's 38 league games, scoring 13 goals.

"I was able to play in all the games, that was nice, and that's why I added on another year."

The former Bayern Munich star hopes he can use his experience to help the young players at Lazio.

"Looking at it, I have always been a role model," he said. "I always try to set the young players an example. When I see something in training, I talk to the lads and discuss the situation. Let's see how it works it out this season.

"We have a lot of young and talented players who still have to be cut like diamonds."

While Klose appears to be planning to his career next summer, Lazio sporting director Igli Tare said, according to Goal.com, that the decision on the striker's future "is only down to how he feels and if he still wants to play football."
