LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic retires from professional soccer

Baggio Husidic announced he is retiring from professional soccer, the LA Galaxy midfielder announced on Thursday.

Husidic, 31, played professionally for 10 years, with eight of those spent in Major League Soccer and five with the Galaxy. Over the course of his MLS career he made 154 appearances, scoring 18 goals and adding 14 assists, while winning MLS Cup with LA in 2014.

"I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to spend the last 10 years of my life playing this game that I love," Husidic said. "I couldn't have predicted what my career would have looked like, but I am proud and grateful for everything I have been able to experience through soccer.

"Having the opportunity to represent three fantastic clubs was very special. However, wearing the crest of the LA Galaxy, as well as being part of an MLS Cup winning side in 2014 was something I could have only dreamed of.

"Thanks to my coaches, my teammates, the front office and the fans for making this club feel like home for the past five years. I will cherish all of the amazing friendships forever. My family and I will forever be supporters of this great club."

Husidic was selected in the second round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, where he played until 2011 before a stint at Swedish club Hammarby before joining the Galaxy on Nov. 14, 2013.
