Migne outlines global vision for Harambee Stars

Kenya's new head coach Sebastien Migne has outlined his 'global vision' for the Harambee Stars, with qualification for the 2019 African Cup of Nations just the start of his ambitions for the East Africans.

The Stars defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in an international friendly on Monday, with Pistone Mutamba scoring the only goal of the game, having been defeated 1-0 by Swaziland last week.

"It's not only playing and qualifying for the AFCON, but my vision for Kenya is global," Migne told journalists after the match, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. "We need to work together over a period of time to be able to achieve this and also dream of bigger competitions.

"Although we have a lot of work to do, I liked the awareness and behaviour of the team," he added. "It was a difficult game, but it was great that we managed to keep a clean sheet and also get motivated with the win."

Migne introduced seven new players to the national team, and has backed his squad to achieve their aims during his tenure.

"We need time together, and more build-up matches to be able to build something strong," he continued. "Kenya have good players and all we shall need to do is polish them and have as many matches as possible."

Nick Mwendwa, the President of Football Kenya Federation is delighted that, while the Harambee Stars weren't at their best against Equatorial Guinea, they still managed to get over the line.

"We have to develop a mentality," he began. "It's not about winning, but identify a team that can work with the new coach," stated Mwendwa, as per the Kenyan FA.

" In the next few days the team will travel to India for three international matches," he added.

Kenya began their AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-1 defeat by Sierra Leone, and will host Ghana on September 7 in their second Group F match before facing Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on October 10.
