Manchester United should sign Wanyama, says ex-Chelsea defender

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier this transfer window, but former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy believes Victor Wanyama could be a better signing for the Red Devils.

Spurs have already cashed in on Kyle Walker this summer, with the right-back moving to Manchester City in an eye-catching deal that could stretch to £50 million earlier this month. The next player tipped for the exit door is Dier, with United reportedly considering a £50 million move for the England international.

However, speaking on TalkSPORT this weekend, Cundy has questioned why United aren't considering a move for Wanyama.

"If Man United are after anyone, why don't they go for Wanyama?" 47-year-old Cundy asked, speaking on TalkSPORT's Sunday morning Weekend Sports Breakfast show. "He is a Jose Mourinho-type player."

Wanyama was signed by Tottenham from Southampton last summer, moving to White Hart Lane in an £11 million deal. He quickly established himself as a key figure for Mauricio Pochettino's side as they launched another unlikely title challenge.

The Kenya international made 36 Premier League appearances, of which 35 were starts, scoring four goals and contributing one assist.

He averaged 2.5 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per match last term, and also registered a pass-success rate of 87.5 percent, placing him in the top 25 in the division.
