Gonzalo Higuain back in Juventus training ahead of Tottenham clash

Gonzalo Higuain has returned to training with Juventus and could face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday, although doubts remain over the fitness of Mario Mandzukic.

Higuain, who scored twice and missed a penalty in the 2-2 draw with Spurs in Turin last month, has sat out his side's last two games with an ankle injury.

But he returned to full training on Sunday, raising hopes that he can feature at Wembley.

Tuttosport reported that Higuain trained as part of a group who had not featured against Lazio and were put through a more intense session on Sunday.

However, Mandzukic -- who coach Massimiliano Allegri said has been carrying a thigh strain for the past few weeks -- was absent from the session.

His condition will be monitored on Monday before it is decided whether he is part of the squad for the match in London.

Juve need to win at Wembley to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League. A 2-2 draw would force extra-time which, if it were to end in a draw with six goals or more, would also see them go through.

A goalless draw, 1-1 draw or defeat would see Juve's Champions League challenge end in the round-of-16 for the second time in three seasons.

Juve have reached two of the past three Champions League finals, losing to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
