Juventus' Paulo Dybala 'lacking a little confidence' amid goal drought

Paulo Dybala has admitted he is lacking in confidence while searching for his first goal for Juventus this season.

The forward tallied 23 goals in 46 games in all competitions in his first season with the Italian champions, but he has yet to find the net in four Serie A games and the Champions League match against Sevilla.

The 22-year said he's struggled to replicate his form from the previous campaign.

"On a personal level, I started last season better so maybe I'm lacking a little confidence in front of goal," Dybala told ESPN Argentina.

"But I always try to make my contribution in other ways, running more for my teammates or winning balls back in defensive areas."

Ahead of Wednesday's game against Cagliari, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri said there is "no problem" Dybala as he looks to open his account.

"I'll have a look at him today," Allegri said. "Dybala played a lot of games last year and even on Sunday [against Inter] he played a good match. He's lacking a goal right now, but he needs to stay calm because it can happen.

"This year is very important for him, because last year he had a year in crescendo and this season he has struggled a little bit, but that happens in the career of a footballer and above all over the course of a season.

"He just has to remain calm because he's an extraordinary player, so I see no problem with Dybala."

Dybala also welcomed the arrival at Juventus this season of his Argentina teammate Gonzalo Higuain, who has scored three times already for his new club since his record move from Napoli.

"Gonzalo's a very important player for Juventus, as are all our new signings," Dybala said. "They will help us to improve on what we achieved last year."
