Paulo Dybala rescues draw in Gonzalo Higuain's first start for Juventus

Marquee Juventus signing Gonzalo Higuain made his first start for the Bianconeri in Saturday's 2-2 friendly draw with Espanyol.

Higuain joined the defending Serie A champions from Napoli in a €90 million deal in July, and was named by Massimiliano Allegri in a strong starting XI for Juventus, alongside Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli and Dani Alves.

The starting debut didn't go exactly to plan for the Argentina international, however, with fellow Juve striker Paulo Dybala ensuring that the Italians only snuck away with a draw.

Baptistao sent Espanyol ahead after 35 minutes, before Mario Mandzukic brought Juve level just after the break.

The La Liga side were then reduced to 10 men after Victor Sanchez picked up a second yellow card in the 77th minute, but were still able to score what seemed to be the winner when Gerard Moreno struck on the break with three minutes remaining.

Dybala's excellent left-footed shot in injury time rescued the draw for Juventus, and ensured that the Bianconeri won't enter the 2016-17 Serie A campaign on the back of a loss.

Among other friendlies on Saturday, Nicolas Gaitan and Diego Godin scored to help Atletico Madrid beat the Nigerian league all-stars 2-1.

New signing Gaitan opened the scoring with a powergul shot in the 33rd minute, and though the all-stars equalised through Abdulrahman Bashir with five minutes to play, Godin found a late winner with a header from the corner.

Bayer Leverkusen defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 with goals from Kevin Volland and Javier Hernandez.

Volland opened the scoring in the 34th minute before Hernandez netted a penalty a minute later.

Napoli overcame an early deficit to beat Hertha Berlin 4-1 with goals from Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon, Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens.

In two other games between Bundesliga and Serie A clubs, Darmstadt and Las Palmas played to a 1-1 draw, while Borussia Moenchengladbach's friendly with Lazio finished goalless.

Fin Bartels's first-half goal allowed Werder Bremen to beat fellow Bundesliga club Ingolstadt 1-0.

Rafa Mir scored a late winner for Valencia to beat Fiorentina, after Federico Bernardeschi's early opener for Viola was cancelled out by Rodrigo.

Also in Spain, Leganes beat Villarreal 3-2 thanks to Alexander Szymanowski's late penalty, though fellow newly promoted side Osasuna fell 5-1 to Rayo Vallecano after a Patrick Ebert brace.

Granada rallied from two goals down to beat Mallorca with an Ezequiel Ponce brace and a late Jon Toral winner, while Malaga held off Cadiz 2-1.

A trio of games went to penalties, with Sporting Gijon and Valladolid beating Derpotivo La Coruna and Alaves respectively after 1-1 draws, while Zaragoza got the better of Eibar after a 2-2 draw.
