Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini to miss Napoli, Bayern clashes due to injury

Juventus have suffered an injury blow with news that key defender Giorgio Chiellini is set to miss their top-of-the-table clash with Napoli and the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich.

Chiellini, 31, picked up a calf injury in the final 15 minutes of Juve's 2-0 win over Frosinone on Sunday.

The Italian defender has started 27 games for the Bianconeri this season, and has been instrumental in their impressive 14-match winning streak after their patchy start to the season, which saw them pick up five points from their first six games.

In a training update on Tuesday, Juve confirmed the news that Chiellini would be out of action: "Missing out on this morning's session was Giorgio Chiellini, who underwent a series of tests after departing the action towards the end of last weekend's clash at the Stadio Matusa.

"These revealed a torn soleus [calf] muscle in his right leg, an injury that is expected to keep him out for up to 20 days."

Chiellini could also face a race against time to be fit for Juve's Serie A meeting with Inter on Feb. 28.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri already looks set to be without the likes of Kwadwo Asamoah, Sami Khedira and Mario Mandzukic for the game against Napoli due to injury.

And Juve are short of central defensive options, with Martin Caceres out for the season and only Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Daniele Rugani available for Allegri's preferred 3-5-2 system, and full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner potentially required to provide cover.

However, full-back Patrice Evra should return from illness after missing the win over Frosinone.
