Juventus are back in Serie A race, says boss Massimiliano Allegri

Juventus collected their sixth straight league victory on Sunday.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri believes his side are back in the Serie A title race but also acknowledged that Inter Milan will take some catching.

The reigning Italian champions reached fourth place following a 3-1 home win over Fiorentina, a sixth straight league victory that propelled them to within six points of leaders Inter.

Juan Cuadrado, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala scored the goals that turned the match around after Josip Ilicic opened the scoring for Fiorentina with a third-minute penalty.

Head coach Allegri is now confident Juve can target a top-three finish, telling juventus.com: "We're getting towards a points total that will allow us to finish first, second or third.

"We are back once again, but the season is long and Inter are very strong. They played a very good game yesterday [Saturday's 4-0 victory at Udinese], and at this time they are the favourites.

"To catch them we will have to go on a very special journey."

Juve went into the new season looking to win the Scudetto for the fifth year in a row but back-to-back defeats and further poor results left them languishing in the bottom half through the autumn.

"We have had a number of problems," Allegri added. "But now the boys are playing well again.

"We have to work hard, to keep improving, but the important thing is that we have good team spirit.

"We are in good physical condition and we are recovering a number of players from injury."

Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa was proud of his players despite watching Juve unravel their hard work in the second half.

He told the Gazzetta dello Sport: "It's never easy to play against Juve.

"We were in the game and we played well, but in second half we couldn't put away any of the chances we created.

"Juve have a great defence and they were red hot on the counterattack, too."
