Massimiliano Allegri, Claudio Marchisio extend Juventus contracts

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has extended his contract by a year until 2017, becoming Serie A's second highest-paid coach in circulation.

The former AC Milan coach took charge of the Bianconeri only weeks before the start of last season following Antonio Conte's shock resignation. His arrival was met with disdain by most Juve fans, who greeted him by throwing eggs at, spitting at and kicking his car when he arrived for his first day in charge.

He managed to win them over by leading the club to a fourth consecutive Scudetto as well as victory in the Coppa Italia. Juve also reached the final of the Champions League for the first time since 2003. They were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona in Berlin.

His reward is a new contract which means only Inter Milan's Roberto Mancini is currently on better wages in Serie A. It is reported Allegri will earn in the region of €3.5 million in each of the next two years, a rise of a million on his first season at the club. Mancini's contract was reported to have been worded to increase to €4.5 million for second and third seasons in charge.

Allegri signed his new deal on Monday after talks with club president Andrea Agnelli and general manager Beppe Marotta in Turin.

"This new contract is thoroughly deserved because Allegri has plenty of distinguished merit for an extraordinary year for the Bianconeri," read a statement on juventus.com. "The coach knew how to take charge of a team which was already extremely strong and make them even more lethal and aware of their own strength, also providing them with the authority in Europe which they had already gained in Italy.

"He introduced his vision of the game bit by bit, adapting his players to it and teaching them how to change their behaviour during matches.

"The basis for all of this is the professionalism of the coach and his staff, the ability to infuse new stimuli into the players, a deep knowledge of football, the ability to manage the squad, the planning of his work and the determination to pursue objectives.

"In one word, he has talent. Allegri is going to give this to Juve once again, in the hunt for new triumphs."

Meanwhile, Juve also announced on Monday that Claudio Marchisio is set to end his career with them after he signed a new five-year contract with the Italian champions. A Tweet quoted Agnelli saying: "Claudio Marchisio has renewed his contract for the next five years."

At a news conference, the 29-year-old said it is "just as emotional as when I arrived here in 1993."

He added: "This is a starting point for me; to start winning things all over again. I'm truly delighted to be able to wear the shirt I've always wanted to wear. Having Juventus in my heart gives me all the energy I need in training and matches."

Earlier on Monday, Juve announced the departure of Andrea Pirlo for New York City FC and Marchisio admitted he will be missed.

"He was an important player for us and for me," he said. "He helped me a lot over these years."

In his place arrives Sami Khedira from Real Madrid.

"Khedira will increase the quality in the squad and bring with him Champions League experience," Marchisio added. "Whoever has arrived here in recent years has always been able to settle in well."

In addition, Paul Pogba's future remains unclear, with Agnelli admitting on Monday that he cannot provide any guarantees about the Frenchman staying in Turin.

"There's nothing certain in football," he said. "A few years ago, we wanted to keep [Christian] Vieri at Juve and we called [then general manager Luciano] Moggi and he said 'don't worry, he's staying' then two days later he was an Atletico Madrid player.

"Players are only guaranteed to be staying here after Sept. 1."
