Juventus president reminds Torino of their struggles in the Turin derby

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has opened the verbal teasing ahead of the Turin derby this weekend by reminding city rivals Torino of their lack of recent success.

The two Turin clubs meet in Serie A on Sunday in contrasting situations and form. Juve are three points clear at the top of the table and have won 24 consecutive league games at their Juventus Stadium, while Torino were last week beaten at home by Sassuolo -- a result which angered their fans after a lacklustre start to the campaign.

The Granata are currently just three points above the drop zone and 19 points behind the Bianconeri, while history is not on their side in terms of the Derby della Mole.

"Irony and banter are what make this sport special," said Agnelli as he met with his opposite number Urbano Cairo at an event in Turin on Thursday. "We always play to win while they, in the past 15 years, haven't managed to beat us or even score a goal past us."

Torino's last win over Juve dates back even further than that, with the victory coming on April 9, 1995. They did, however, manage to score against their rivals just under 13 years ago.

Nevertheless, their recent record has been poor and Cairo said his team will do what they can to turn things around on Sunday night.

"It's true -- we've not had much in the way of satisfaction recently," Cairo said in La Stampa. "But hopefully things can change this year after we've regained our place in Europe for the first time in 20 years. I hope that Amauri and [Fabio] Quagliarella can make the difference. We want a great performance on Sunday."

Amauri and Quagliarella will be lining up against their former club on Sunday evening hoping to bring some joy to Torino fans, who were denied that once again on Thursday evening with a 0-0 Europa League draw at home to Club Brugge.

"Torino are used to having to suffer," Granata coach Giampiero Ventura said at Thursday night's postmatch news conference. "If we'd won, we would have qualified with a match to spare, but that would have been too easy for us.

"Now we've got the game against Juve, which is going to be a lot different. We're up against the strongest side in Italy and it's not going to be easy to get a result. But you can never say never in football. We've got to recharge our batteries and then we'll think about how best to prepare for the derby."

Juve have scored 17 goals in five home games this season, including seven against Parma in their last match at the Juventus Stadium, while the two scored by Roma in October are the only goals to have been conceded.
