Juventus fine and drop Arturo Vidal for partying before training - report

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal was fined and dropped by the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, after a photo of him involved in an altercation on the streets of Turin in the early hours of Friday morning was published.

The incident reportedly happened at around 5 a.m. after Vidal, 27, had been out clubbing with friends. A few hours later, he arrived late for training and was promptly fined by the Turin club, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims.

Once Juve caught wind of why the Chile international was late, and what he had been up to just 48 hours before the most important fixture of the season, he was dropped for Sunday's 3-2 victory against Roma.

Vidal's exclusion from the starting XI did not raise any eyebrows considering his place went to Andrea Pirlo, with many believing he had been rested as Pirlo was available for the first time after recovering from a hip injury.

The incident may not only cost the midfielder in financial terms, but it may also build a case for his departure from the club.

Juve were reluctant to entertain offers for the player this summer, but that stance may well change in January, which could put Manchester United on alert.

The Red Devils were keen on Vidal and pursued him for much of the summer transfer window, although an official bid never materialised for a player who has had disciplinary issues in the past.

Three years ago, he was involved in a scuffle at a local night club, while in 2011 he was suspended by the Chilean Football Association for 10 matches after breaking a curfew while on international duty.

Vidal is reportedly valued at around 45 million euros by Juve, who may now be tempted to sell him for less.

He has featured five times this season, scoring twice, while last term he scored 11 in 32 Serie A outings, picking up eight yellow cards in the process.
