Barnsley, who last played York at Oakwell 36 years ago to the day, will be without injured winger Keith Treacy for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie.

Summer signing Treacy was forced out of the weekend draw at Yeovil with a groin injury and will miss out so his replacement Dale Jennings is expected to return to the starting line-up.

Reds boss Danny Wilson could hand on-loan Manchester United striker Devante Cole his first start for the club. The teenage son of former England forward Andrew made his third substitute appearance at Yeovil.

Another summer recruit, Kane Hemmings, is also in contention for his first start for the Reds, while midfielder James Bailey remains doubtful due to a hamstring problem.

York, beaten 3-0 by Barnsley when they last visited Oakwell on September 2, 1978, have no new injury or suspension worries.

Michael Coulson is expected to retain his place up front against his former club, while fellow strikers Wes Fletcher (knee) and Ryan Jarvis (ankle) are both closing in on returns.

Boss Nigel Worthington must decide whether to retain John McCombe in central defence alongside Keith Lowe or recall Dave Winfield after his side kept their first clean sheet of the season against Wycombe at the weekend.

The Minstermen have drawn all five of their league fixtures this season.
