Kazuyoshi Miura breaks own record as J-League's oldest goal scorer at 49

Kazuyoshi Miura scored his first goal of the season on Sunday to break his own record as the J-League's oldest scorer at the age of 49.

Miura, who is playing in his 31st season, scored in the 22nd minute for FC Yokohama, who lost 2-1 to FC Gifu in the league's second division.

Miura, who scored three goals in 16 appearances last season, reached the latest milestone at the age of 49 years, three months and 24 days. Last November he extended his contract at Yokohama.

The record for the oldest goal scorer in the J-League's top division belongs to Brazilian Zico who scored at the age of 41 years, three months, 12 days for Kashima Antlers.

Miura played for Brazil's Santos and Italy's Genoa early in his career, and represented Japan 89 times, scoring 55 goals, but never played at the World Cup.
