Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure ends international retirement

Yaya Toure has reversed his international retirement and hopes to win another trophy with Ivory Coast, according to his agent.

Dimitri Seluk tweeted on Tuesday that the 34-year-old was ready to return to international action, having last played for his country in September 2016.

"Yaya @YayaToure has decided to return to Ivory Coast national team. He wants to win another trophy with the Elephants of Ivory Coast," Seluk wrote.

Toure, who has over 100 caps, was part of the team which won the 2015 African Nations Cup.

He has been reduced to a bit-part role with Manchester City this season, making only three Premier League appearances and eight in total after signing a one-year contract extension in the summer.

But Seluk's tweet suggests he has no imminent thoughts of retirement, given Ivory Coast failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup so their next opportunity for silverware will be the 2019 African Nations Cup.

In quotes reported by Sky Sports, Seluk also claimed Toure will not depart City in the January transfer window because he is keen to win another Premier League title and help the club develop the next generation of stars.

"Everything is good at Man City. He will 100 percent stay at City in January," Seluk said. "He wants to be a three-time champion of the Premier League, but he is also enjoying using his experience to help the young players at the club.

"During the Leicester Carabao Cup game, he had more appearances for City than all of the other starting players."
