Napoli's De Laurentiis hits out at FIGC after Giampiero Ventura appointment

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has questioned the Italian FA (FIGC) over its appointment of Giampiero Ventura as head coach.

Ventura was officially presented as the successor to Antonio Conte on Tuesday, but De Laurentiis does not approve.

"I had Ventura here at Napoli with me, but [sporting director Pierpaolo] Marino sent him away again after just three months," De Laurentiis said at a news conference. "I saw Torino play under Ventura many times -- sometimes they were good, other times they were bad."

De Laurentiis believes the Italian FA needs to go through radical change, from top to bottom. President Carlo Tavecchio bore the main brunt of his criticism, but Antonio Conte was not spared either with De Laurentiis predicting his failure at Chelsea.

"I don't understand Tavecchio," he said. "It's all a question of power. In Italy, we invent this power and these roles. I think the federation has no place in the modern world. Tavecchio must be around 130 years old now and he has gone for another centenarian who loves his 3-5-2 formation.

"I wasn't even convinced by the 3-5-2 used by Conte at the European Championship. Conte is the best around at uniting a dressing room, but Chelsea are going to struggle with his style of play. In Europe and in the Champions League, you don't play this way."
